My husband, Tim, recently spent a week in Gulfport, Mississippi on a mission trip with our church. The nice folks at Gateway Methodist there in Gulfport put them up in their mission building and the crew worked on several repair projects for those who needed help with home repairs after the destructive Katrina. I know the focus on this area has dropped off considerably now that people are putting Katrina behind them, but the rebuilding and repair continues....and they need help. These are areas outside of New Orleans (which received the lion's share of the media coverage). These small communities are trying to rebuild, but have had to rely on themselves and the kindness of others to do so. Unlike the larger cities, the smaller towns do not have many resources available to them. Gateway has a center in Gulfport to house any group willing to come and help out. You don't have to have construction experience to lend a hand. Some in our group are builders, but not all (our pastor will tell you he was completely out of his element! :o). They replaced a roof, repaired and painted an interior wall, and rewired a house while there. Many of those in need don't have the knowledge, don't have the money, or simply are physically unable to do the work. If any of you are interested in helping out, please contact the United Methodist Committee on Relief regional office at 228-539-9332 for more information on how your group can make a difference in someone's life.

Blessings,

Ginger

well, sort of. I won't be giving step-by-step directions on pulling off your own "Lit like LaCour" shots, but I will divulge some of the going-ons from the week.

We all had a great time and learned a lot. First off, I have to say again, the LaCour crew was awesome. Mark, Andrew, Rachel, and Erin were so open and genuine, it was truly a pleasure to get to know them all. And I so enjoyed getting to know all of my classmates. Each added their own touch to the class and definitely raised the bar on my expectations for future classes.

I've had a few of you ask me why I'd bother to go to a photography class when I'm already a great photographer. While I admit my head swelled a bit at the compliment, I have to say that all photographers (and I'm sure this applies to other professions as well) need to attend classes to keep the creative flames burning, to learn or brush up on techniques, but most of all to make new friends who share our love for photography.

This past week I spent time getting to know several people who truly love photography. I couldn't be anything but better for it. A better photographer and a better person. Below are some images of my fabulous classmates and here's a link to the gallery for those of you who want to see all of the pictures. The code is LaCour.

Thank you to my clients who understand how important this class was to me. I appreciate your support!!

The irrepressible Stuart Thurkill tries out BIG lens.

We all took our turns trying to capture 'the' image as Mark and Erin danced...

And what a dancer Mark is! Andrew looks on.

I think maybe Mark still loves dancing with Erin!

The Biltmore Ballrooms was the site for our lighting demonstration and classes were held in the Cellar at the Twelve Hotel in Atlantic Station. Very nniiicccee! :o)

We had a delectable meal at Ecco, a modern four-star restaurant in Atlanta. Mmmmmm.

Stuart was nice enough to pose for me while I tried my hand at a LaCour lighting technique.

Nice purse Aaron! Kristin thinks so.

Cinemaphotographers Extrodinaire... Holley and Paul of www.fourseasonsfilms.com.

Here I am trying my hand at a low, low light shot.

This cutie won everyone's heart! Graycen is definitely the most photographed child ever. She's around photographers all the time, and with such a cute face we can't help but turn our cameras her way!

Erin was such a good sport, taking requests from all of us. This is one of my favorite shots of her spinning.

After a wonderful week at the LaCour Workshop making new friends(pictures and details are coming soon!), I came back to a message waiting in my inbox from a dear, long-lost friend.

What a great feeling! I'm so excited that she found me and we get to find out what each other has been up to the past few years. Who has kids.....how old are they......where we are living.....what are our hobbies now that we're "old"? :o) All are fun questions that we get to ask, it's like making a new friend all over again.

If you are considering getting in touch with friends that have lost touch, definitely do it! Do it now. Life is too short to miss out on such special friendships.

Have a happy day,

Ginger
